How to get a title for a bicycle

A TitleVelo title is a private record of a bicycle, tied to the full serial number on the frame. If no shop has filed that serial, the owner creates an account, submits the bicycle, a photo of the serial, and a receipt that shows the same serial, and pays $4.99 for the review.

Gather the serial and the receipt before you start. Read the number on the frame yourself. The receipt, invoice, or bill of sale should show that same number. You also need an email address you can open.

Through December 31, 2026, enter promotion code 2026 on the card page. The code takes 100% off the $4.99 review fee.

  1. Step 1

    Create a personal account

Open Create Account and leave the account type on Personal. Enter your email, a password, and the same password again. Choose your country, then create the account. Confirm the email if TitleVelo asks you to, and sign in.

  2. Step 2

    Open Register Bicycle

In My Garage, choose Register Bicycle. This path is for an owner. A shop files a new bicycle from a dealer account, without a receipt.

  3. Step 3

Enter the bicycle and the full serial

Enter your first and last name. The email is the one on the account. Then enter the make, model, and the full serial number from the frame. Year and color are optional. Letters in the serial are saved in capitals.

  4. Step 4

Add a photo of the serial and the receipt

Upload a clear photo of the serial number, usually under the bottom bracket. Upload a photo or screenshot of the purchase receipt, invoice, or bill of sale. The receipt must show the same serial number.

The stamped number, large enough to read.

    2. Purchase receipt

The same serial must be visible on the receipt.

Both files are required. A receipt that does not show the serial is not enough.
  5. Step 5

    Pay the $4.99 review fee

Choose Pay $4.99 and submit. On the card page, enter promotion code 2026. Through December 31, 2026, that code takes 100% off the review fee. After that date the fee is $4.99. It is charged when you submit, and it is not returned if the registration is refused.

On the card page, enter code 2026 for 100% off through December 31, 2026.

The record is saved after the card payment succeeds.
  6. Step 6

    Wait for the review

The bicycle stays in your garage while it is reviewed. An administrator looks at the photos in as little as one hour, and within three business days when many records are waiting. A public lookup stays unverified until that review is finished.

If the bicycle already has a record

Look up the full serial before you pay the review fee. If TitleVelo already has that number, do not file it again. A new bicycle filed by the shop is placed on the buyer’s account. Any later holder gives you a claim code, and you accept it from Claim with Code in your garage. You do not upload a second receipt for a serial that is already filed.

The serial is also checked on Bike Index and 529 Garage. A stolen listing does not by itself prove the bicycle was never stolen elsewhere, and a clear result does not skip the photo review.

Questions

Is a TitleVelo title a state title?

No. TitleVelo is a private bicycle registry. It does not issue a state certificate of title, and it does not promise that a receipt is genuine or that the bicycle is free of a lien.

What if the shop already filed my bicycle?

Do not register it again. If that shop filed it as a new bicycle, TitleVelo emails you and the bicycle is already on your account. A later sale uses a claim code from the current holder. A second registration of the same serial is refused.

What does Verified mean?

Verified & Clean Title means the photos and the receipt met the review, and the bicycle is not reported stolen in this registry. It does not show the owner’s name on the public lookup.

Is the review free in 2026?

Through December 31, 2026, promotion code 2026 takes 100% off the $4.99 review fee. Enter it on the card page. After that date the review fee is $4.99.

Where do I find the serial number?

Read the full number stamped on the frame, often under the bottom bracket. Type that whole number. A partial number is not returned by a lookup and is not enough to file the bicycle.
